Autism Awareness Month
April is National Autism Acceptance/Awareness Month, and the HelloTech Community Team wants you to know we appreciate and value the many positive contributions that persons with autism make to the world.
What is autism?
The National Institute of Mental Health designates autism as existing on a spectrum. Autism’s classification as a “spectrum” stems from the wide variation in both type and impact that persons may experience.
What does the autism community look like?
Persons on the autism spectrum are as varied in their abilities, emotions, thoughts and experiences as anyone else. Being on the autism spectrum or otherwise differently-abled does not remove someone from the human condition.
How does someone know they are on the autism spectrum?
Only a professionally licensed medical doctor can diagnose someone. It is important to consult with your healthcare provider regarding any diagnoses, treatments or other therapies.
Why should I observe Autism Acceptance/Awareness Month?
Because it’s important to #CelebrateDifferences! Bringing awareness to autism through accurate information and maturely understanding experiences can help create a more inclusive society for individuals with autism.
What resources are there to learn more about autism spectrum disorder?
The Autism Society of America has great information to learn more about Autism Acceptance and you can get involved in your local community.
The National Institute of Mental Health has a wealth of medical knowledge.
